“Armavia” up for sale again

06/11/2005

According to a close source of head of the department of aviation, the owners and official sponsors of the “Armavia” travel agency are trying to find someone who will buy the company from them. The problem is that the new owner, who was from the “Sibir” travel agency and who had purchased “Armavia”, does not manage to get the company back on its feet. In addition, the company’s management/marketing issues are getting worse due to lack of professionals in those fields. The thing is that after handing “Armavia” over to the new owner, the experienced manager left Armenia. As a result, the new owners are forced to rely on the workers (who are also the ones to blame) of “Armavia” travel agency who work the way they are used to. This is the reason for the failures in business management and travelers’ complaints. Let’s recall that “Armavia” was handed over to the former owner of “Sibir” travel agency in spring 2005. According to our source, this was a rather “delicate” transaction. At the end of last year, the Internal Revenue Services of Armenia had presented “Armavia” with a 7.5 million dollar tax. Officials of the RA had proposed the “Sibir” travel agency (share-holder of “Armavia”) to turn in one stock of the company in exchange for not paying the tax.
