“Peculiarities of national competition”

“Every time I speak on TV the government sends officials to my offices for inspections. Last time I spoke about the issues of employees. Less than a week after that a group stopped by and they were inspecting for 3-4 weeks. They demanded all kinds of papers for the past 5,6,7 years. They told me I had to copy those. I didn’t even know that so many papers exist. A big group of tax inspectors came to our warehouse, locked it and told us that we cannot distribute anything anymore,” during yesterday’s press conference such a sensational announcement was made by an American-Armenian businessman Vahagn Hovnanyan. He didn’t exclude that after his statement he will have new guests to his offices. And the statement is sensational because Hovnanyan is mildly-said not an average businessman. He has close relations with the representatives of the former and incumbent government. But even that doesn’t help the Diaspora businessman to feel secure and safe in his historic fatherland. Moreover, Hovnanyan directly stated that he was friendly advised to stay away from such sectors, where concrete people are doing business in Armenia. He said that back in the day he tried to import timber from Russia but he was advised not to do that and buy the wood from the people, who already import that. But when he tried to do a business of wheat he was literally said, “we will burn the wheat field by the time the seeds grow.” Hovnanyan was lucky. An average businessman’s field would have been burned without any warning.
