“During the meeting of the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan to take place in Kazan in June the Russian president, being backed by the French and American parties, will apply strong pressure in order to make Sargsyan and Aliyev eventually sign the package of Main principles, which has been under negotiation during the past 5 years,” writes Thomas De Waal from Carnegie Foundation in his interview given to The National Interest. He wrote the key points of the main principles, according to which the Armenian forces will slowly move from the territories around Karabakh, Nagorno Karabakh will be given an interim status, which will give international legitimacy to it, but not full independence. In addition, Karabakh will be given promise to organize a referendum in the future “with the power of law” for the purpose of defining the final status.
