With a different eye

“After the parliamentary events of 1999 they were looking at us with a different eye. It was difficult to even meet people and convince them of something. And after 1-1,5 years when we were able to get back on our feet our positions have become quite loose in the world,” told our reporter the former minister of foreign affairs Vartan Oskanyan when asked to comment on the influence of the internal issues of Armenia on our foreign policy. He said that such a situation was created in 2002 after A1+ was denied broadcasting license. After bad elections we also have such a situation. “Negative events take place on the streets of Yerevan, police interferes, use force and after that we again get to go through lots of challenges in the international arena. And indeed we had a very tough situation after the events of March 1. The best evidence of that is the voting of March 14 of 2008. We were so weak that Azerbaijan was able to persuade the General Assembly of the UN to adopt a resolution in its favor. If these events hadn’t taken place I am sure Azerbaijan wouldn’t have been able to make that happen,” said Oskanyan.
