The ANC’s rally on March 17 really changed the situation in the political sector. Before entering the Freedom square and when they were already there the first president Levon Ter-Petrosyan introduced the opposition’s strategy. He described this strategy as “Honored Deal”. Where else would they announce about it but not in the Freedom square, which was opened for them with pleasure? The Freedom square became a symbol of not only struggling but the end of the struggle. In 2007 Levon Ter-Petrosyan launched his return to active politics with the slogan “struggle, struggle till the end”. On March 17 he announced that the struggle was becoming a political job. It means that the ANC has changed its strategy. “We are not maximalists and we don’t have a goal to press the authorities to the wall,” openly said Levon Ter-Petrosyan. Now the ANC has to be a little bit more honest to the society. Till this rally people had been present at the opposition’s rally with the mentioned maximalists’ expectations to kick the authorities out. The resource and support of the society the ANC used to have was based on the principle of struggling but not compromising to the government. Now it is clear that the ANC is getting prepared for the parliamentary elections (even this time they did not call on to organize extraordinary elections). Now the only thing they should do is announcing it openly to the society to enable them make a choice between the government and opposition, which is doing a political job. Maybe people will take part in the opposition’s rallies by hoping that with this strategy the ANC will get places in the parliament and get ready for a change of power either in 2013 or 2018. Now they have to change their slogans. For example, instead of “now” they can use words such as “later”, “we are not in a hurry”, etc. Maybe they should change the slogan “struggle, struggle till the end” to “end to the struggle”.
