“When there is freedom, the civil society can move hills. Normally governments would like to see the hills where they are, but when the civil society has enough support to make the government make changes, it is a sign that it is time to move the hills,” said the US Ambassador to Armenia Marie Yovanovitch during a meeting with students of Yerevan State University. She says that during the past two and half years she has travelled throughout Armenia and understood that Armenian youth are initiative, smart and patriots. “They are dreaming of Armenia’s bright future. What will happen to the initiatives and dreams of those young people if those are resisted by the unfair competition of businessmen with strong political contacts or if their ideologies put their families in danger? What will happen if people are not able to organize and implement lobbying against the government or if the elections of leaders do not seem to be fair? What will happen if they are not able to learn about different opinions from the media?” asked Ambassador Yovanovitch.
