Boomerang effect

The complicated relations and conflicts between the Republican Party of Armenia and Prosperous Armenia party were not resolved yesterday either. Even pro-government officials said that in the evening the coalition would hold a session but it did not take place. According to our information, during the coalition meeting on Thursday the PA leader Gagik Tsarukyan refused to sign a statement committing to endorse Serzh Sargsyan during the upcoming presidential elections. He said he would make his decision about this after the parliamentary elections. However, yesterday evening rumors were spread that Gagik Tsarukyan had signed under that statement and they would announce about it soon. It is not realistic because the PA has made an announcement reading that the issue of staying in or resigning from the coalition would not be discussed at the upcoming meeting. Even more, the PA representatives say that by refusing to leave from the coalition on their own initiative the leader of the PA decided not to take this initiative and not to leave the game up to the RPA. If the PA fails in this process, the coalition will have to make the PA resign from the coalition and bring reasonable justifications stating what the failures of the PA were. If this information is true, it means that the PA may win this battle. At least for now. By making the PA resign from the coalition without any reasonable justification the RPA may be faced with a difficult situation as this decision may be accepted like a war declaration with the RPA and the process may not be controllable anymore. The pro-government circles think that the PA will still stay with the coalition for now but will do their best not to express any commitment to endorse the candidacy of the incumbent president during the upcoming presidential elections. Anyway, this general meeting of the PA will give answers to certain questions and will make it clear what the future development of the political sector will be. If the PA makes an announcement on endorsing the incumbent president’s candidacy during the upcoming presidential elections, then at the parliamentary elections the PA and RPA will run together in a joint coalition bloc. Otherwise, the PA will become the main competitor of the RPA during the parliamentary elections.
