During the recent session of the PACE Monitoring commission in Paris the reporter on Armenia, John Prescott spoke about the issue of the political prisoners resulted from the clashes of March 1 2008. He said that the issue of releasing those political prisoners would be in the focus of their upcoming monitoring visit to Armenia. Yesterday the head of Armenia’s delegation to the PACE Davit Harutyunyan informed the Radio Liberty about this and said that Prescott will visit Armenia either in the end of January or in the beginning of February. In a word, we may assume that following the summit on human rights which took place in Armenia last month the PACE has strengthened the pressure on Armenia and the authorities are looking for real solutions to release the political prisoners. By the way, even the formulation of the European officials have changed a Prescott said that “he will be focused on the issue of releasing the political prisoner resulted from the presidential election 2008”. Even more, even the person from Armenia aid that, who has been busy during the past two years with closing the issue of setting the political prisoner free. In the recent period David Harutyunyan is speaking more about finding solution to release the political prisoner. In a word, the international “resource” of toleratings the presence of political prisoners seems to be ending soon the authorities will have to release them notwithstanding their wish. It is not excluded that it may happen till February. From the human prospective it doesn’t matter for what reasons the authorities will do that because the important thing is to release the innocent people as soon as possible. But even if they do that, again the society must admit that the suspicious visits of the Europeans and the punishments for the authorities can have more influence than the fair demands of the majority of the society, civic society representatives and the media.
