Statement

22/11/2010

"Political prisoner Nikol Pashinyan continues his activity in Kosh penitentiary keeping the acting regime in constant panic. Since the illegal detention of Nikol Pashinyan, the authorities have resorted to different inadmissible methods in order to silence him. Regular violence and pressure against Nikol have reached their climax and may lead to unpredictable consequences at any moment.” The former political prisoners are convinced that the violence against Nikol is organized and sponsored by the ruling administration otherwise the authorities would easily neutralize the threats menacing a prison inmate. “As former political prisoners who are well aware of this system from inside, we are convinced that the violence exercised against Nikol Pashinyan is organized and encouraged by the administration. Otherwise, it is not a problem for the administration of a penitentiary to neutralize all the risks an inmate is exposed to given there is a clear instruction from the authorities. We, the undersigned, announce that the authorities bear full responsibility for the recent incidents in the Kosh penitentiary. At the same time we demand to stop the political vendetta against Nikol and to take up relevant steps to eliminate all possible danger threatening his life. Taking into account the above-mentioned we the undersigned former political prisoners are stating that the entire responsibility for the violence Nikol Pashinyan was subjected to and for the risks posing threats to his life and health lies on the ruling authorities,” reads the statement.
