The president of France Nicolas Sarkozy has signed the order increasing the age of the right for pension from 60 to 62, and the age for a full state pension – from 65 to 67. This is the law because of which the people of France have been making a noise and organizing strikes and demonstrations in almost all cities of France. There have been opinions so far that Sarkozy would give a place to the public complaints and demonstrations and would not make the pension reform, but the president of France made his decision come true as his political team deems this important for the long-term development of their country. It is hard to say what will happen after the adoption of this law and it is not excluded that it may result in a new and bigger discontent among the people of France to the extent of attempting to make a revolution. However, the problem is different. This anti-populist action on part of Sarkozy shows his loyalty to the decision of his political team and the ability not to go in the political mainstream, which can be a great example for countries such as our country. Even there are examples in the history of independent Armenia, when the authorities adopted and implemented such hard decisions, without which the statehood would not exist. Due to such decisions there were economic reforms in the 90s such as the land privatization and liberalization of prices… The authorities of those times did not give up and managed to make those reforms come true. The same authorities led by Levon Ter-Petrosyan believed that the document on Karabakh settlement of 1998 was a good solution but they failed to sign it, and still they say that this document was the best we could get out of the negotiations. There are people now who believe that if the president signed this document, Armenia would be totally different now. The worst conclusion about the difference of the authorities of Armenia and France is that if we can remember many examples of political will or failure in the actions of those authorities of 90s in Armenia, it is not possible to remember at least one example in the history of the past dozen years that the authorities made an anti-populist action important for the statehood notwithstanding the pressure of the society. This is a very good indicator about the quality of the authorities.
