Everything is OK now

”Any bad peace is better than any good war. If there are negotiations, it means there are opportunities to reach the final results too. The standpoint of the Armenian party, i.e. that of Armenia and Karabakh is very clear. It is based on the international law. Karabakh was included in Azerbaijan in 1921 by the decision of the communists’ party. The people of Karabakh have never agreed with such decision. In 1988 the movement of Karabakh started, and later Karabakh unilaterally reached self-determination through a referendum,” said president Serzh Sargsyan in his interview given to the Ukrainian ”Profile” newspaper. ”Even if till now there was somebody who used to say that the right of self-determination of nations is against the other main principle, i.e. the territorial integrity, now, since the decision of the court of the Hague stating that the unilateral declaration of Kosovo’s independence is not against the international law, everything is OK already. That is why it was clearly announced at the OSCE session in Almaty this year that the three principles of not applying force or threat of force, territorial integrity and self-determination of nations that are the basement of the negotiations are equal. We hope that eventually we will reach fair solution. If we based on the notion that there is no solution, it would be very hard for us, first of all for the people of Karabakh to live,” said Serzh Sargsyan.
