“Today we are also expressing our respect to the journalist who are faced with obstacles and intimidation throughout their professional work. According to the report of 2009, 71 journalists were killed for their professional work and hundreds of journalists were intimidated and attacked,” said the US Ambassador to Armenia Marie Yovanovitch on the international day of journalists. She says that “these brave people have made a lot of efforts to make the role of the media important.” Commenting on the freedom of speech in Armenia the US Ambassador referred to the report of the Freedom House and said that Armenia is not an independent country according to this report. “I am petitioning the Armenian government to discuss the cases of intimidation on journalists because the environment of lack of punishment will worsen the situation,” she said.
