Armenia is recalling its signature

Yesterday the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan summoned a joint coalition and later National Security Council meetings, during which, according to the official statement, he briefed them on the results of his latest visits to Washington and Moscow that reportedly focused on the stalled Turkish-Armenian normalization process. According to the same statement the members of the Security Council discussed the latest developments in the process of normalizing relations between Armenia and Turkey. “President Sargsyan said that he has held a series of consultations on this issue with the leaders of the parties making up the political coalition.” The statement was a further indication that President Serzh Sargsyan will announce a suspension or termination of the universally welcomed normalization process in a televised address to the nation expected on Thursday evening. The presidential press service said late Wednesday that Sargsyan has already made a decision on the future of that process after consultations with coalition leaders and members of his National Security Council. It means that the RA government has virtually decided to recall their signatures from the Turkish-Armenian protocols. Most probably, this decision was made during Sargsyan’s visit to Moscow. It means that the Russian government “approved” this. It means that in the near future new developments are expected in Armenia in both the foreign and internal political arenas. Moreover, in the near future we should wait for the echo of the US and not so much of Turkey. As a matter of fact, by ceasing the Turkish-Armenian protocols the Armenian government is going against the US, under which support the soccer diplomacy was proceeding.
