Yesterday at around midnight by Yerevan time the meeting of President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan with the US President Barack Obama ended in Washington DC. As of yesterday no information was provided about the meeting. The meeting lasted 45 minutes. Most probably today Sargsyan will meet the US State Secretary Hillary Clinton. And prior to the meeting with Obama, Sargsyan met with the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. After the meeting no official statements were made. But after the meeting judging from the statements of Sargsyan and Erdogan the impression is that no essential progress was registered in the Armenia-Turkey rapprochement process. “The Turkish Prime Minister mentioned that Turkey is positive about the protocols, which are aimed at establishing normal relations with Armenia and ensuring peace in the region,” Turkish mass media reports. Nevertheless, yesterday certain Turkish media outlets by referring to well-informed sources, informed that the sides have agreed on speeding up the ratification of the protocols with joint efforts. Regardless of the results of these meetings it is obvious that those will serve as an opportunity for Barack Obama to avoid uttering the word “genocide” in several days.
