“The authorities of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic have numerously said that we don’t have occupied lands but have borders of the country, which are established in the Constitution. The standpoint of the Karabakhi people to this issue is much stricter,” said MP of the Karabakhi parliament, former members of the ARF Gegham Baghdasaryan in answer to the RA president’s statement on the possibility of returning the occupied lands to Karabakh. “In addition, there is no document enabling the Armenian government to represent Karabakh’s interests in the negotiations,” he said. Another MP of the Karabakhi parliament, member of the pro-government Karabakhi People’s Party Vahram Atanesyan says that in his words Serzh Sargsyan emphasized the importance of the self-determination of Karabakh. “If it is done, and if there are better guarantees for peace and mechanisms of implementation, the president’s statement can be interpreted as compromise on part of the Armenian government,” he said.
