The authorities don’t inform us about when there will be heating in the schools of Yerevan. As we were informed by the Education department of the municipality, they had organized a meeting with the directors of schools in the communities and asked them to test the heaters and electric systems of the schools to make sure they are ready for winter. They are also going to conduct different jobs in order to get ready for the winter. The municipality is going to ask the “Electric Power Stations” CJSC to verify and check the electric lines to make sure the schools will be provided with electricity in winter. The schools are going to pay for electricity from their own budgets. There were 20 schools last year, which had boiler rooms for heating. But this year there are more than 23 schools that have boiler rooms. This means that at least 43 schools will have heating this winter. The other schools will have to use electric heaters. According to the head of the municipality’s Education department the minimum temperature in classrooms is going to be +16 C. But experience shows that even in case of such conditions children don’t attend classes. That is why the municipality’s Education department has made a decision to prolong the winter vacation, but in this case there will be no more autumn and spring vacation. This means that there will be neither autumn nor spring vacation, but instead of this winter vacation holidays will start from December 26 and will last until February 12. First grade students will have more one more week of relaxing. But they will have less free time during autumn and spring.
