Retreat in Zurich

The Armenian national Congress has made an announcement following the ceremony of signing the protocols between Armenia and Turkey in Zurich. “The signing of Armenia-Turkey protocols again comes to prove the bankrupt and poor diplomacy of the incumbent government. As a result of the retreat in Zurich the incumbent government had the goal to reach the opening of the border between Armenia and Turkey by paying with the idea of establishing a commission of historians, which questions the historical truth of the Genocide. Even this immoral and unacceptable deal did not meet Armenia’s expectations. Despite the approval of the parliaments Turkey has already got what it wanted. Turkey continues to link the issue of opening the border with the conflict of Karabakh at the high level; specifically Turkey is connecting the relations with returning the territories which are considered to be security guarantees. The ANC has been warning about this for more than one year, and we have been warning that after Serzh Sargsyan agrees with the proposal to establish a commission of historians the issue of the Armenia-Turkey relations and Karabakh conflict will be treated in one package.” The Armenia-Turkey protocols are a result of Kocharyan’s and Sargsyan’s policy of the past ten years, as a result of which they created a criminal oligarchic system in the country, and the issue of the genocide was included in the foreign policy agenda, thus making it a subject of political deals. As Serzh Sargsyan’s government does not have the support of the people and serves for the international community, they will compromise the Karabakh issue as well. The only means to stop this anti-national process and escape from future losses is, as one year ago, the overall and total disagreement and consolidation of the different sectors of the society against this policy,” reads the ANC’s statement published recently.
