Another diagnosis

In the last release of the National Statistics Service of Armenia among the economic slump indices there were also rates of the increase of crime in the country, which wasn’t taken into account in the country at all. In January-July 2009 compared to the same period of the last year the level of crime in Armenia increased by 64% and in the first seven months of this year there were 8057 criminal cases registered. In order to understand what exactly this number means it is enough to just mention that in the seven months of the previous year the amount was 1.5%. Indeed, these numbers can be analyzed in various aspects and in various contexts. The authorities may say that on the one hand the global crisis conduced to the increase of crime and on the other hand the good work of the law-enforces. The opposition may declare that the reason of crime is the adjacency of the criminal elements with the government. The issue in this case is that nobody discusses the issue of the increase of the crime level and the government doesn’t speak about this either. Large circles do not debate around this issue. And perhaps it should also be considered objective that the society as well has the same indifference to this issue. This once again proves that our government, opposition and the society are not healthy. As in civilized countries, to which we are supposedly striving for, such a high level of crime would cause massive concern and there would be various discussions at different low and high levels. In the meantime in Armenia such a horrible increase in crime is considered merely usual statistical data. Those are data, which in fact comes to prove how unhealthy we are.
