“Armenia is a semi-authoritarian country and the situation has not changed since last year,” writes the recent report published by the Freedom House international organization. This evaluation is based on the results of the presidential elections 2008 resulting in the death of 10 civilians. According to this organization, Armenia received 5,39 points out of 7 and is among the semi-authoritarian countries. The report writes about the weak estimations of international organizations concerning the elections. “If the international monitors see the numerous facts and reports on violations, the clashes between the opposition and government and after the events of March 1 they announce that the elections were in line with the PACE standards, it means that something is wrong,” said the head of the Freedom House European office Vladimir Shkolnikov.
