During the opposition’s recent rally at the Matenadaran ex-president Levon Ter-Petrosyan paid a special attention to the improvement in the Armenian-Turkish relations. According to Ter-Petrosyan, the ANC is not only for developing the relations, but also is ready to support the government in connection with any positive policies. In his speech Levon Ter-Petrosyan said, “Unlike the optimistic expectations and predictions the Armenian-Turkish relations will not be improved and the border will not open since there is no significant improvement connected with the conflict of Karabakh. In this case a serious question originates.” According to Levon Ter-Petrosyan, Turkey reached its goal, Armenia’s expectations were failed and the Diaspora was disappointed. The first president pledged that the ones guilty for this diplomatic failure are the leaders of the Armenian governments of the past 11 years, namely Robert Kocharyan, Vardan Oskanyan, Serzh Sargsyan and Edward Nalbandyan. Concerning the policy of the mentioned politicians the ex-president said, “They simply violated the saint idea of the genocide and made it a subject of political transactions and deals.” However, Ter-Petrosyan says there are some positive factors in this process too. “However there are some positive things in the current process of Armenian-Turkish relations, which brought to bad results. Such positive things are the fact that Turkey is interested in developing relations with Armenia on the one hand, and the connection of these relations with the relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan provides a ground to stimulate the settlement of Karabakh conflict,” he said.
