“Dangerous” inclinations

12/04/2009

Yesterday the analytical center of the famous “Economist” magazine released a report, according to which the “social discontent in Armenia is a serious hazard for the incumbent government.” The experts of the “Economist” came to this conclusion after examining the economic situation and level of political stability of Armenia, including the social imbalance, corruption and distrust of the society to the government. According to that in regard of political imbalance Armenia occupies the “honorable” 94th place among 165 states. Armenia is among such states as Mozambique, Syria and Namibia. According to the “Economist” the economic state is most vulnerable. According to the 0 to 20 scale (0 means least economic turbulence and 10 maximum economic jolt) Armenia received 7. Compared to the past two years in 2007 Armenia occupied 3.8 instead of the current 5.8 of political imbalance. In fact, our government has echoed with this report very operatively by yesterday cleaning the Northern Avenue from the protesters. We think this evaluation will become an additional stimulus for our government by doing the same to the taxi drivers, fair traders, owners of small stores and other “enemies of stability.”
