Yesterday at 06:00 PM the police cordoned off Northern Avenue. The press service of the Armenian National Congress reports that they have detained 8 citizens, including the coordinator of the Armenian National Congress Levon Zurabyan. After the court trial of political detainees Alexander Arzumanyan and Souren Sirunyan, on the eve of the Yerevan Mayor elections, being terrified with the atmosphere of distrust and the dissatisfaction enhancing among the public more and more, the regime decided to launch its electoral campaign before the term. In this connection, the police attacked the participants of the political walks in the North Avenue, as they let balloons fly in the sky in connection with the Day of Mother and Beauty on April 7. The next day, on April 8, the same Police columns blockaded the North Avenue from its both sides. Then, they tried to disperse the people gathered there. And as a preventing measure, like the last year, they took to the Police department 10 activists. A1+’s journalist Davit Jalalyan was beaten up by the Chief of the Patrol Division. Davit was attacked the moment he was trying to make a photo of policemen pushing and beating the participants of political walks. After rendering first aid an ambulance car took Davit Jalalyan to hospital. The people, who were taken to the police department, were later released close to 9:00 p.m. Zurabyan was released sooner.
