The deepest crisis since independence

“In 2008 Armenia had the deepest political and civic rights crisis since independence,” writes the Human Rights Watch report published recently. “International experts believe that on March 1 the security forces applied disproportional power toward the citizens appealing the outcome of the presidential election. The state of emergency declared following the events of March 1 temporarily limited a number of human rights. Both of these activities have been widely criticized by the international community,” writes the report of the human rights organization.
