“I think that the government of Armenia should answer to the announcements as soon as possible and make steps resulting in a positive resolution on Armenia,” said the founder of Civilitas foundation, former foreign affairs minister Vardan Oskanyan in answer to the question of Arminfo news agency concerning the possibility of depriving Armenia’s vote at the PACE in January. “The fact that the Monitoring Commission is suggesting to deprive Armenia’s voting right, which definitely was a surprise for the Armenian government, shows that the understanding of the Armenian officials concerning implementation of the PACE obligations differs from the understanding of the European institutions. While the authorities are assuring that Armenia is fulfilling the corresponding resolution obligations, the reaction of the monitoring commission shows the vice versa. I hope that the Armenian government will make real steps till January in order not to make our understanding concerning fulfillment of obligations differ from that of the PACE, and in order to prevent adoption of a resolution, which is very dangerous and crucial for Armenia,” said Vardan Oskanyan. He believes that Armenia should be concerned of the PACE monitoring mission’s decision. “Especially in consideration of the fact that the impact of the world crisis of Armenia is getting deeper, which certainly will result in serious problems for Armenia, any problems connected with democracy may weaken Armenia’s international positions more.”
