“Everyone should understand that for the sake of Armenia there should be no political prisoners in Armenia, even there should be no cases which can be a reason to assume that there may be political prisoners in Armenia. There should be a normal legal procedure, the criminal cases should be solved fast and everyone should be released,” said American co-chairman of the OSCE MG Matthew Bryza in his interview given to radio Liberty. This is a sensation not due to the fact that he said the truth, but due to the fact that the American diplomat used the term “political prisoner” for the first time. “We are seriously concerned about the arrests in Armenia. I think that there are 67 arrested opposition representatives. The people who have been arrested due to political reasons are considered political prisoners, or as the government alleges, for actions resulting in violence. We believe that no one should be arrested for political reasons,” said Matthew Bryza.
