14/12/2008

On December 3 president Serzh Sargsyan signed a decree to grant amnesty to three detainees: Edward Ashughyan, Arman Margaryan and Artur Nazanyan. The mentioned people were sentenced to 3-3,5 years of imprisonment for going against the police during the events of March 1. This information was provided to Aravot daily by the president’s spokesperson in answer to a question whether the rumors that three detainees have been granted amnesty are true. The president’s spokesperson says that upon signing this document the president took into consideration the letter of these people and the fact that they had not been charged before, as well as their family status. The spokesperson says that the president has been always ready to consider such petitions to grant amnesty. There are rumors saying that such deals are trying to be made with other detainees as well, and even some of them are under pressure for that purpose.
