In answer to a question whether Moscow is concerned of the warm relations with NATO the foreign affairs minister said, “No, we don’t worry about it.” “We maintain good relations with the NATO member countries as well, we have a Russian-NATO council as well, we are also a member of the Euro-Atlantic cooperation as Armenia is,” said Lavrov during a press-conference given with Armenia’s FM Edward Nalbandyan. “We believe that if NATO, as it has announced, reforms and becomes an organization, which will struggle against new threats and challenges with the partners, we will not see any dangers in it,” he said by explaining that the danger is NATO’s enlargement to the East with the logic of enlarging in new territories, which is not justified any way and is not connected with any threats. “We don’t have any misunderstandings with Armenia in terms of the cooperation with NATO,” said Lavrov. Edward Nalbandyan said that they had discussed issues concerning bilateral economic cooperation, projects in the energetic and transport fields. Certainly they also discussed the issue of Karabakh conflict settlement separately. Sergey Lavrov has also met with president Kocharyan.

According to the president’s press department, Serzh Sargsyan said that he appreciates the relations between Russia and Armenia, which are developing dynamically. “During the meeting they discussed issues concerning the fulfillment of the agreements between the presidents of Armenia and Russia in Sochi in September of this year, the recent developments in Caucasus, the efforts targeted at stability and cooperation in the region and Karabakh conflict settlement process,” reads the official statement.
