During her interview to the Radio Liberty the spokesperson of the Prosecutor General of Armenia Sona Truzyan once again refuted the allegations of the prisoners and their lawyers that the current court trials are “political orders.” The court has already made its verdicts for the most part of the imprisoned ones, however the latter refuse to agree with that and consider the verdicts political persecution. “None of the suspects has been arrested for political views. Everything was done in the framework of the criminal proceedings,” says Truzyan and added that as of May 29 over 20 verdicts were made. “The courts substantiated the accusations made to concrete people for certain crimes. According to the court verdicts 9 out of 25 people were sentenced to imprisonment for 1-3.5 years and the punishment defined for 15 people is conditionally not applied. And they are under probation.” Truzyan doesn’t think that the accusations are fake by mentioning that most part of the imprisoned accepted the portion of their crime and received “mild punishment.” In the opinion of the spokesperson a number of people have their own interest in demonstrating the accusations as a fake process and by finding these people innocent. “They have their own political benefits from this process.” Information was released that the main organizers of the post-electoral development are in freedom now and that part of them were released by leaving signatures. In this regard Truzyan said, “I don’t know what people mean by saying main organizers. If there is anyone, any citizen, who has more thorough and concrete information about this we ask them to present them to us for review. The investigative body will take these data into account and the court will examine them.” As of the court verdict for the imprisoned politicians, Truzyan says that the position and status of the person in the society must not play a role for the court to soften the verdict, “Of course the court is interested in that in terms of describing the person. There are over two dozen citizens, who only left a signature of not leaving the country as a punishment. The ground of such a decision was that the fact of having the person out of person wouldn’t ban the investigation process. Individual decision is made for each suspected person and it is just incorrect to try to find certain political solutions here.” According to the press release as of May 29 because of the attempt of violating the constitutional order of the country and attempts of usurping power there are 49 suspects and 33 more are indirectly connected with that. Four people are currently under search – Khachatur Sukiasyan. Nikol Pashinyan, Virab Manukyan and Hamlet Hovhannisyan.
