Yesterday the newly elected President of RA Serzh Sargsyan gave an interview to the Russian Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper, during which he said that he accepted that the government also had its guilt during the tragic events of March 1.

“During the whole process of the campaign period I and my colleagues, the candidates were constantly speaking about the danger of provocations. However we were not able to prevent those. By saying that I mean that we also have our fault in the tragic events,” said Sargsyan when answering the question of the reporter regarding whether he feels responsible for the tragic events of March 1. “And today we need to think about annihilating the consequences of the tragedy. I think the best solution for that is the just activity of the newly established collation, the productive functioning of which will make our people believe that they had made the right choice,” stated Sargsyan. The reporter of the Rossiyskaya Gazeta also tried to know Sargsyan’s opinion about the NKR conflict resolution. To the question “how do you envision the regulation of the NKR conflict especially after the events, which took place in Kosovo?” Sargsyan stated, “Our region is located in between the interests of various geopolitical forces and contradictions are inevitable. The best guarantee of security and stable development is the strengthening of democracy based on liberal principles and in accordance with the international practice.” When speaking of the recent developments in this regard he said, “The diplomatic requests of Azerbaijan to the UN and the recent collision of the Azerbaijani and the NKR military forces on the border cause concerns. Armenia is ready to regulate the NKR conflict only peacefully and in the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group. There is the Minsk Group format and there is no need to change it. I think that the issue of regulation should rely on the international recognition and identity of the people. Therefore, certain conditions must be created for that. Besides that the security of the NKR people and the borers must be maintained.” Sargsyan also spoke about prospect of the development of the Armenian-Russian relations. “Fortunately Russia supported Armenia in such abstruse economic conditions for us. I mean the blockade. The Russian side also showed us support during the March 1 events. Our ties are closely links in politics, economy and culture. The Russian capital is involved in various spheres of Armenia’s economy. It includes the energy sector, atomic industry, bank and production sector, communications, etc,” stated the Armenian President.
