“Souren Surenyants, member of the political board of the Republic Party, has gone on a hunger strike since early morning of March 24.” This statement was made by Nubarashen penitentiary. He noted that he had practiced his constitutional right and freedom and did not commit any offence and therefore demands stopping persecution and immediate release. Press-secretary of Armenian Penitentiaries’ Department Arsen Babayan told the RFL correspondent that have already considered Surenyants’ statement and have undertook certain steps in this regard. Surenyants was moved to a separate cell. To remind, Surenyants was prosecuted on March 25 evening. He faced prosecution dealing with attempts to “usurp power” and holding unsanctioned rallies and meetings.
