“Do you really believe that the weapons found during the dispersing operation of the rally in the Liberty square by the Police were really there?”. Answering to this question proposed by a citizen on Thursday PM Serzh Sargsyan said, “I sincerely believe that the Police couldn’t find many weapons. I not only believe, but also regret because if those weapons were found during that operation there would be less fire and shootings during the mass disorders in the evening and at night”. Answering to another question who ordered to disperse the demonstration on the February 29-March 1 night Sargsyan said, “There was no order or decision to disperse the rally participants or demonstrators. All what is announced by the Police, what will be announced by the prosecutor’s office, what will be done in the framework of the criminal case must be clear to all of us; we don’t want to hide anything. Till now I believe that the Police went there not to disperse rally, but to look for weapons. If the police were there to disperse them, it would have a plan of activities. The police would think that there were people, there were activists, who would do that in another place. I mean that there were no arrests, and generally due to the fact that they had not prepared for such thing dozens of policemen were injured. If the police were there to disperse them why didn’t they have weapons, specific wearing, helmets, hand weapons? I don’t want to speak specific things about the incident in order not to let it be interpreted as an intimidation or attempt to direct the criminal proceedings. That is the reason I say that I think so”. By the way, the PM was also asked whether it was possible that the Russian scenario would be repeated in Armenia and whether the incumbent president might become prime-minister. “Both Kocharyan and me are honest enough and if there were such a thing and that scenario would repeat in Armenia we would announce about it before the election like Putin and Medvedev did”.
