The rally of Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s supporters still continues in the Liberty Square of Yerevan. Former military prosecutor and deputy Prosecutor General of Armenia Gagik Jhangiryan also expressed his intention to join Ter-Petrosyan’s movement (after that he was fired from his post). 7 MPs from the RPA and Prosperous Armenia factions also joined the movement. The announcement was read in the Liberty Square by the RPA MP Manvel Ghazaryan (director of Vedi Alco). Later in the evening rumors were spread that three out of the 7 MPs didn’t sign under the agreement to join the movement. Yesterday certain presidential candidates made several condemning statements addressing Ter-Petrosyan’s movement. The deputy speaker of the Armenian National Assembly and presidential candidate Vahan Hovhannissyan made a decision to resign from his post. “Those who are trying today to follow the path of upheaval must remember and understand what a crime against our people they had committed by blatantly falsifying the 1996 presidential elections and setting in motion a vote-rigging machine which we can not stop to this day,” he said. The leader of the NDU, presidential candidate Vazgen Manukyan made a statement, which specifically says, “It is struggle for coming to power on the surge of hatred.” Prime Minister of Armenia and the winner of presidential elections according to preliminary results Serzh Sargsyan stated that the police will apply certain means in case if the opposition decides to use methods violating the peaceful rally. And only presidential candidate Arman Melikyan stated that the created situation is full with undesirable consequences and expressed his willingness to submit the role of a mediator between the government and opposition aimed at overcoming the crisis.
