RPA spokesman MP Edward Sharmazanov has told the radio Liberty that the presidential election of 2008 will be the best election in the new history of Armenia. “It is our goal to organize legitimate, democratic elections. I believe that this election will be the best in the new history of our country,” Sharmazanov said. Answering to a question if the election is the best why there are so many policemen near the government building Sharmazanov said, “Certainly the police is to carry out its duties as established by the law… The institutions of the state, the police should be ready to carry out their duties at all times. At least they are paid from the budget for that work. I think that the rallies and events organized by supporters of the [opposition candidates] comply with the Constitution and legislation of the Republic of Armenia, there will be no problems”. “If the society has decided that the winner is Serzh Sargsyan, they (the other candidates) should perform a good faith and congratulate the winner. If we were in their place, certainly we would congratulate the legitimately elected candidate”.
