Azeri politician Rustam Mamedov has said to “Novosti-Azerbaijan” newspaper that if Levon Ter-Petrosyan is elected president the conflict of Karabakh will be settled in benefit of Azerbaijan. “Levon Ter-Petrosyan has great opportunities to win as the Armenian people are tired of the incumbent government. Ter-Petrosyan is very famous and meanwhile new person for the Armenians,” he said. The Azeri politician said that he had some hope that the relations with Armenia would become normal and as well as the conflict of Karabakh would be settled. “Ter-Petrosyan has warranted to be a pro-western leader. Thus, he will implement a western type foreign policy targeted at improving relations with neighbors, inclusively with Azerbaijan. In such case we can expect to have positive developments in our relationship, also it is expected that the conflict of Karabakh will be solved in benefit of Azerbaijan,” he said. The Azeri politician also believes that in the nearest future Armenia cannot become fully pro-western as he believes that the Russian army troops in Armenia will prevent them.
