23/01/2008

The attorneys of the former deputy director of the YUKOS oil company Vasili Alexanyan warned that the life of their client is endangered in prison because the officials of Russia refuse to comply with the verdict made by the European Court of Human Rights, according to which Alexanyan must receive an immediate medical care in a professional hospital. According to the attorneys Alexanyan suffers from dangerous disease and 14 months ago the doctors of the prison subscribed medications for him and therapeutic care. Nevertheless, as informed by the Financial Times Alexanyan hasn’t been medically treated yet. Moreover, two months ago he was moved to the jail hospital, where he got infected by tuberculosis two months ago. Alexanyan got blinded and therefore cannot examine the materials of the case filed against him, where he is blamed of forgery and kidnapping. “Alexanyan’s medical state is so serious that he can die any time,” said Alexanyan’s attorney Yelena Lvova. Let’s remember that Alexanyan was charged in March 2006 in the framework of the case filed against the owner of YUKOS Mikhail Khodorkovsky.
