“Like cures like”

29/12/2007 Edward ANTINYAN

In the end of this year I want to discuss some ideas I have spoken during this year. Meanwhile, I’d like to use the opportunity and congratulate everyone on this festive season and wish a happy New Year and Merry Christmas.

I have spoken about the conflict of interests between Hovhannes Hovhannisyan and me both during the parliamentary elections and after them. When I discovered the real face of Hovhannes Hovhannisyan it seemed that despite the fact that Ter-Petrosyan had spoken good things about him, he would be careful and would escape from close relationship with him. However, I was surprised when some people tried to convince me not to “destroy” Hovhannes Hovhannisyan since the first president needs him. I tried to find out why the first president needs that balloon, but I couldn’t. Later I could find it out that Ter-Petrosyan didn’t need him only for the purposes of having one more supporter to the 1+1 movement, but he had found another bearer of his ideology. Thus, I accused Hovik in stealing the documents of the party. Later it turned out that the president had taken any documents he liked. He has found a good term to justify that action and says that he has taken those materials to his private archives. I asked the store manager what had happened to those materials, he said that the first president had taken them to his private archives. There was time when I called Hovik a geopolitical cheater. The reason was that he was trying to convince people that every day he was going to Dzoraxbyur to take clothes from his house and to fly to Texas and that Bush was waiting for him at his ranch to have some drinks with him. Definitely it was the reason why that poor man was always being late as he had to cross such a long distance to come to Yerevan. Now you can compare whether Ter-Petrosyan’s geopolitical cheat differs much from that one. Do you remember the rumors they were spreading that the first president has come to an agreement with the presidents of the US and France, and that he would announce about his decision to run once he agreed it with the Russian president too. They also said that the Russians didn’t like Serzh Sargsyan and would support Ter-Petrosyan to become president. However, when that trick was discovered they started speaking that the first president did not expect any support from outside and hoped to be elected only by the vote of the Armenian people. It happened several months ago when that trick was discovered and he said that the Americans don’t have anything to do here and that they rely only on the people. The newspapers that are supporting Ter-Petrosyan wrote that officials were having meetings with him but later it turned out that the same powers were meeting with all the other opposition candidates, and the governmental candidate met with those people who had sent the mentioned representatives to meet with Ter-Petrosyan. Only after that they said that the opinion of people was important to them. There was time when they said that if he was nominated, he would win for sure and people thought that the world powers had come to an arrangement to support him and it was up to him to make a decision.

Another characteristic nature H. Hovhannisyan has is that he lies everywhere and everyone. Some time people thought that such person with white hair and good past could not lie. This principle was used in the activities of the first president too as his past was more honorable and he could use that opportunity and stay undiscovered for a long time. We shouldn’t also forget that any “fraudulent office” can survive due to their chief’s charismatic appearance. Both their appearance and achievements inspire trust and the stories about their past seem to be very believable. If it is not true, who will give its money to support a candidate and stand close to him without any documented guarantee in case his appearance doesn’t inspire trust? I think that I could convince you that the methods of Ter-Petrosyan and H. Hovhannisyan are alike.

There is another characteristic nature that makes Ter-Petrosyan and Hovhannisyan alike. You could agree upon certain issues with the latter’s team, but he could make decisions solely and later put the blame on the others. The first president acts like that too and his supporters often say that he makes decisions solely and they are surprised. We understand that it is surprising, but we wander whether it is good to them. Specifically, Ter-Petrosyan’s supporters wrote in the newspapers under their umbrella that the ARF people are betrayers and bribable and all the time they were publishing facts from their archives about the “dark deals” of the ARF. However, one day people, holding those newspapers in their hands, heard that Ter-Petrosyan is in the residence of “the monsters” with unofficial and friendly visit. Now you can understand why their estimations were changed the next day and they tried to introduce them as angels. They were doing their best to justify the wrong steps on the part of their leader. Besides that, one of the newspapers supporting Ter-Petrosyan was publishing Vazgen Manukyan’s caricature. Later, when these two politicians unexpectedly met, Ter-Petrosyan’s and Vazgen Manukyan’s pictures were appended close to each other with charming introduction writing that if these two charismatic leaders come to an agreement, it will be a great achievement in favor of our state. When Vazgen Manukyan announced about his refusal to join Ter-Petrosyan, his caricature appeared on the pages of that newspaper again. He can poke fun at Manukyan since he is a colleague of the past, but why to poke fun on his team members who are doing their best for Ter-Petrosyan? Wasn’t it possible to make them understand without discovering the reasons that they shouldn’t be so straight as in the future they might need to change the approach. There was time when I blamed Hovik of leaving the political field in a very important phase when he was a leader and said there wasn’t anything bad in that action. Now let’s estimate whether the fact that the general commander of the first president has escaped from his position differs much from the estimation I have given before that.

I can bring in other similarities too, but I assure that there is no sense to do so. I just want to prevent the stress conditions, in which many of our citizens will appear after the presidential elections when they understand how they have been cheated by the actions of the first president. People may argue and say that I shouldn’t speak such things about the first president. I am begging you to resist your complaining at least till February 20, 2008.
