After the ARP summit the leader of ARP party and candidate for president Serzh Sargsyan answered to a question whether his tactics would change before the presidential elections and said, “No, I have said for several times and I am saying one more time that our purpose is explaining the meaning of our program to the Armenian people, and especially to the Armenian citizens, and showing them our vision of the future. There are no other specifications for us, at least today”. Serzh Sargsyan discussed the announcement of first president Levon Ter-Petrosyan that the existing system should be destructed and assured that any attempt to destruct the existing state system will be prevented. Answering to a question proposed by a journalist what he meant by saying “to prevent” Sargsyan said, “Firs of all I meant the political side, otherwise, as you say, if they try to do anything, the law enforcement bodies will take certain actions. It is not the party’s job”. S. Sargsyan also excludes the possibility of color revolution in Armenia and says that several years ago he said that such revolution is not possible in Armenia. “We have already done all the revolutions long before,” said the ARP chair.
Concerning a question that despite his announcements Levon Ter-Petrosyan has spoken positively about the way he has passed Serzh Sargsyan said, “If you think the fact that he fabricates some facts and says that I have been exiled somewhere, if you think that his announcement that my potential is limited, causing personal insult is a positive thing, it is your problem and it is not up to me. In my speech I did not speak even a word that would cause personal insult”. Concerning his interview given to “Los-Angeles Times” Serzh Sargsyan said, “What I had to say I said during my meeting with the editorial of Los-Angeles Times and I said the truth. What I said is true and I guarantee it, so if there is anyone who wants to find some bad, he should try hard. All what they are trying to present to the public is a result of lack of knowledge about simple things. They want to present my statements as I have said that the conflict of Karabakh has religious grounds and we are making war of religions. It is funny since I have neither thought nor expressed my minds that way. I just said that yes, the factor of religion exists in this struggle. I have always said that and it is not the first time. If this factor does not exist why are they destroying our historical monuments, khachkars, if it does not exist why Armenians were killed just because of being Armenian, if it does not exist, why were Armenians burnt on fire just because of being Armenian? By the way, what I said does not concern only the beginning of the previous century, but the end of it too. Certainly, if anyone thinks that the religious factor does not exist here, it is his/her problem. However, those persons should not put their complexes and problems on me”.
By the way, Serzh Sargsyan said that the winner of the upcoming presidential elections will be the candidate, who has a strong and loyal team. Answering a question about his team he said, “It is strong. Out team believes in the ideology. We think that the personal loyalty is in the second place. Personal loyalty is very important in family and friendship relations, but in politics it is very important that people don’t change their skins and people should not justify their immoral steps by saying that politics is immoral. I don’t think that a person can be immoral in politics and meanwhile be moral in personal life. Such things don’t happen. Yes, our team is strong with its ideas, it is strong with the way it has passed. The strength of our team is that it has a clear vision of what country Armenia can become, and it is the way we are going to do”.
