During the past several weeks of autumn the vectors, which have been formed in Yerevan, offer a few interesting approaches. 1. positive voting of the US House Committee on Foreign Affairs about the Armenian Genocide committed during the Ottoman rule, 2. recent events of Turkey started from the murder of Hrant Dink and finished with the aggressive reaction of the Turkish government about the adoption of the resolution on behalf of Armenians as well as Turkey’s military intervention against the Kurds in Iraq, 3. strict criticism of the US opposition about the military actions of the US army launched in Iraq, 4. increase of the oil price and the instable situation of the Middle East, 5. the approach of the US and its partners about the Arabic-Israeli conflict and their determination of establishing an autonomous Palestinian state and receiving full guarantees of Israel’s security, the strict contradictions between Iran and America as well as the hostile attitude of Iran against Israel. Let’s add to this fist the dynamically developing economy of Armenia, the actual treatment of the Armenian Diaspora to the fatherland, which is reflected by the drastic rise of the real property prices, the assimilation of the foreign lessons on the part of Armenia hen relating with Russia and America. Each of these vectors has a certain positive and in certain cases moral-psychological guarantees, which indeed can be useful for Russian-American relations. The strategic comprehension of people is also very important in the future of Armenia as well as the division of functions between the Diaspora and Armenia, which for the first time happened during the hearing of the Genocide resolution in the House Committee through lobbying. The nation for the first time unites in the joint vector of the system not just in words but in practice. This includes important components as economy and finances, lobbying of interests in the US, Russia, Europe and worldwide… Let’s add also the crisis in the neighboring states and the visit of the president of Iran to Armenia. Only the enumeration of the following should give grounds to the analysts to think about the increase of the role of Armenia, which can be raised in the process of the relations with different countries. In this background the visit of Armenia’s Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan was paid. It was mainly elucidated by stingy parts and comments, which gave us reason for serious contemplation. It’s worth mentioning tht th Prime Minister has met all those high-rank officials of the US, whom the late Prime Minister Vazgen Sargsyan met during his US visit. The success of Serzh Sargsyan’s visit is also supplemented by the fact that the President of France Nicola Sarkozy has also agreed to meet him (let’s not forget Sarcozy’s attitude about the possible membership of Turkey to the EU). The agenda of Sargsyan in the US was quite broad and in the meantime quite concrete especially in the light of the events, which I have just mentioned. Genocide has always annihilated and still annihilates our both national and personal mentality. However, now it should work on behalf of uniting us and emancipate us from complexes and stereotypes. The Armenian community in the world, which lobbies on behalf of the recognition of the Armenian Genocide, has discussed the perspectives of the development of Armenian with the RA Prime Minister. They have also discussed such issues as the national security of the country, issues related to transparency of customs and tax systems of Armenia. All this is done to ensure that the Armenian capital is seriously invested in Armenia. But the high-rank officials of the US were also speaking about this and those necessary agreements have become the road, which may lead the Prime Minister to presidency. If all this really works out and the country gets rid of corrupt officials then there is a great chance that the country will get out of crisis without serious turbulence and will be enabled to establish firm relations with international structures. This is where we are going to need the actual resources of the nation as it’s going to become quite necessary to establish normal relations with Turkey. Saturday may come sooner than Friday. Dink’s assassination showed that the Armenian factor among the intellectual circles of Armenia has quite a significant rating. The opinion of the Armenian community is taken into account in Turkey and the Turksih intelligentsia respects their opinion. Dink’s funeral has united the Armenians and the Turks (the best half of the Turks). By the way, let’s note that only a few people have showed up in the squares of Ankara and Istanbul to protest against the pro-Armenian resolution adopted by the US House on Foreign Affairs. This is reality not journalism. Thus the presidential elections of Armenia are being hold in such important period for Armenia. The mechanism of the government, people’s opinion about that, external factors and the economy intersect at this point. This is when it is crucial like never to cleanse the government. Countries like Armenia transition from one regime to another within 15-22 years. I think the pieces of advice, which were given to the RA Prime Minister in the US implies some of the elements of making the governance even more transparent as well as activate the collaboration with EU. I think regardless of who comes to power Armenia is going to step into a new stage of governance, which will be more transparent and progressive. I am sure that in the coming future the President of Armenia will say what stage the country is at and what he is going to inherit to the next President after his office. The President will even bring up the indexes of prosperity. These are important issues, which have always existed but now it’s time for solving them. I am not romantic. I am a realist and an extreme realist. A whole generation was brought up in the country in European standards even the villagers, who have moved to the city 15-18 years ago. All this conduces to another reality. People have realized that in order to live well they don’t need to steal from somebody. Instead they can get a job and get paid well. The businessmen realize that the prosperity for their business is going to provide the legal environment not the corrupt one. The new president must be a supporter of human rights and during his presidency constantly ensure that those are not violated and in case of violation the culprits are punished. All I know is that it is impossible to build a powerful state without the inoculation of these values in the society. I am a big fan of Denmark, Norway, Switzerland or Finland (the latter is poor at natural resources. It doesn’t have anything but granite but is rated quite high in the international economy with the lifestyle of its population). We, Armenians, who have overcome Genocide, cannot live in the conditions of social inequality. Most importantly, the rich people must realize this because during the genocides the killers first kill the wealthy ones as there is a lot that can be taken away from them. The attacks of the opposition (I mean the recent rally and the future ones) have become an important guide in the conditions of psychological silence and the speech of the first president was relevant as never in terms of what cannot be done in the future. Today the times are totally changed. Despite the fact that I am really interested in the revelation of the crime of October 27 I still believe that it wasn’t a very good theme to include in the agenda of the campaign. Time will show, which one of the sides is lying. There are no ideal leaders and complete morons. Intelligentsia must create a political field, where it will not only develop the leadership spirit but will also raise a new generation of leaders and politicians. That is the mission of the intelligentsia. Anyone, who serves the fatherland will remain in the memory of the people and in history. And it is wrong not to consider the opinion of people.
