Atomic station to start operating

The Armenian Atomic Electric Station (AAES), which activity was suspended due to planning recovering works and recharging on October 11, will start its operation on November 25. The RA minister of energy Armen Movsisyan has said that the nuclear fuel was already in Armenia at the beginning of September. Just after the transportation of the nuclear fuel the planning recovering and recharging works were started, which will enable to operate the atomic station till autumn of the coming year. The minister said that $5mln has been invested for the reconstruction works this year. This amount does not include the price for acquiring the nuclear fuel. According to A.Movsisyan, the Russian counterparts have a big share of contribution in overcoming the financial problems of the station. Annually the AAES produces about 2,5bln kwt/h energy, which makes 40-45% of the inner demand for energy in the country. Concerning building a new atomic station A. Movsisyan said that at the end of 2008 the technical and economic works will be finished at the end of 2008, following which the process of fundraising will start to commence the planning and construction works of the station.
