“Shikahogh” will be recovered in 2008

The activities of map writing, border adjustments, inoculation of endemic trees and plants, care and treatment, reconstruction of the internal roads and irrigation issues have been solved and completed at the “Shikahogh” state reserve due to 24 million 841 thousand AMD allotted by the RA government current year reserve fund. The previous 10 thousand 300 hectare land of the reserve has been increased by 1837 hectares. The reconstruction activities of the reserve will be completed in 2008. Let’s mention that the landscape, scientific and historic reserve occupies an area of 12 thousand 137 thousand hectares. It is located in the northeastern part of the Armenian mountain range and borders Shikahogh, Srashen, Tsav, Shishkert, Nerkin Hand villages. The comparably warm and moist area of the reserve is mainly occupied by broad-leaf oak trees, Caucasian maple tree and other extinct tree types as well as endemic habitat species. The reserve also hosts 1074 types peculiar plants at the altitude of 1300-1400 meters. 70 out of those are included in the Red Book of RA. The “Shikahogh” is rich with archaeological monuments, caves. At the right bank of Tsav in the cliff of Mtnadzor (on 2400 meter altitude) the oak forest still remains, which has been away from human intervention. The beautiful Maple Grove has served for a very long time as a great leisure area for people. It also hosts various species of birds and extinct animals, which are included in the Red Book of RA.
