Following Kocharyan’s announcements

01/11/2007

Yesterday the chair of NDU party Vazgen Manukyan gave interview to “A1+” and said that he was going to nominate his candidacy for presidency during the presidential elections of 2008 notwithstanding anything. “Our party has given its consent and I am nominating my candidacy. It doesn’t depend on who will run or who will not,” said V. Manukyan meaning the fact that the first president of Armenia, Levon Ter-Petrosyan will run too. “Now I don’t want to speak about whether the competition will be good or not. There are many things to do. As for the fact whether he will run or no (Levon Ter-Petrosyan), besides being a candidate he has also been president and during his tenure the state reached a certain point of status. It is another issue, which I don’t want to discuss now,” added Manukyan and excluded the possibility that he may back Ter-Petrosyan in any phase of the elections. In fact, Vazgen Manukyan proved Kocharyan’s announcement that besides Levon Ter-Petrosyan as well as several other “opposition” candidates will run. It is expected that as well as Artashes Geghamyan, Aram Karapetyan, Arthur Baghdasaryan and other “oppositionists” will come up with such announcements. We hope that all “independent and accountable” TV companies will inform about it within the framework of their government work.
