Yesterday during the Foreign Relations Session of the European Parliament RA FM Vardan Oskanyan has made a sensational statement. By considering Azerbaijan’s suggestion to discuss Karabagh conflict in the framework of the UN absolutely “irrelevant” he said that Armenia thinks that the best spot for the NKR conflict resolution is the Minsk Group of the OSCE. But the sensation is that Oskanyan announced during the session that the Minsk Group has revealed great prospects for the conflict resolution and that only 4 provisions out of the three-page document of the resolution are not consented yet. He has said that the Presidents of the two countries haven’t yet agreed on those 4 provisions but he was hopeful that the agreement will be achieved prior to the Armenia’s Presidential elections 2008 in February. Let’s remember that a similar statement was made last week by Peter Semneby, Extraordinary Representative of the EU in the Caucasus Region. He also considered the situation regarding the resolution quite “fragile” and “risky” and said that the situation may be drastically changed prior to the presidential elections in both Azerbaijan and Armenian in 2008. It’s noteworthy that after this sensational statement of Oskanyan Azerbaijan’s FM Elmar Mamedyarov yesterday announced that Azerbaijan is willing to negotiate with “the Armenians of NKR if Yerevan officially recognizes the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.”
