The main topic of the conversation of Lori residents is currently the pig plague, which has become quite wide-spread recently. The second topic is the murder of the prosecutor, related to which they avoid giving clarifications by preferring to wait the official police statement. But the population of the marz speaks quite disappointedly about the people, who discovered plague in the marz. People don’t believe that there is actually plague in their marz despite the official information. They even draw parallels about the information spread in 2005 regarding the bird flu. That’s when the farmers destroyed their chicken farms. A few months later they announced that the bird flu has passed outside the borders of Armenia and as a result the poultry producing factories had great incomes in terms of enlarging their businesses and markets. “There has always been pig disease. Even more pigs were killed than now but at that time no one was interested why this was happening. Nowadays the active information dissemination by the state bodies is perhaps connected with the fact that they wish to receive certain foreign aide,” these are the “naive” assumptions of the Lori residents by adding that during the past two weeks the experts were not able to find out the origins of the plague and how to prevent it. Let’s mention that a special committee has been established to fight the pig plague, the whole marz is in quarantine. A new guard post is opened on Vanadzor-Alaverdi borderline, where all the transportation vehicles are being sanitized before they cross the border.
