Davis is subjective

The chairman of the National Assembly of NKR, Ashot Ghulyan, had this to say with regards to the announcement made recently by EU Secretary General Terri Davis, according to which the International Community will not recognize the results of the NKR presidential elections:

“I think that Mr. Davis’s high position must obligate him to refrain from subjective expressions, however once again we are seeing the opposite. Davis’ opinion represents the conservative EU officials who don’t accept the positive tendencies in the development of world politics. Such announcements are of an exclusively non-constructive character because they impact the formation of public opinion and impede the establishment of friendly ties and dialogue between the Armenian and Azerbaijani peoples.”

Ghulyan then reminded Davis that elections are the direct expression of the people’s will and the most salient manifestation of democracy.

“The development of democratic institutes is driven by the interests of the people of NKR and the international civil society, and fortunately the level of that development is not determined by the subjective opinion of Terri Davis. The elections that have taken place in NKR are proof of that, and they can set an example for a number of countries where change of rule is carried out contrary to the accepted international standards. Judging from their opinions, some representatives of international organizations and political frameworks are not interested in the positive developments in the region. We are not inclined to think that they prefer tyranny and indiscretion.”

The chairman of the NKR National Assembly added that there is no way that such announcements may impede the democratic processes taking place in NKR, due to the fact that the people of NKR proved that once again by passing the NKR Constitution on December 10, 2006, in which was stated the principles of democratic development by which the society was guided until the approval of the principal law and will be guided from now on.

“For those who underestimate the NKR elections and don’t accept the legitimacy of those elections, we suggest participating in the upcoming elections as observers by the approved law and form opinions based on the results. I think that it is worth participating in such elections before giving predictive evaluations,” said Ghulyan.
