Police have arrested a man whom the Armenian Church has accused of blasphemy and vandalism. Reports from the town of Etchmiadzin, some 20 km from Yerevan, and the residence of Catholicos Karekin II, head of the Church, say the arrested man climbed onto the altar of the main church and threw down some holy relics on May 24.
Bishop Ararat Galtakjian told reporters that the man was a resident of a nearby village and a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
