Yesterday the Prime Minister of Armenia was greeted in the Davitashen community of Yerevan with salt and bread. People were holding posters – “For you Armenia”, “Strong army”, “Javakhk” and “Our deputy is Levon Sargsyan”.
“Hatred has no place in the kind of Armenia I dream about. Every person must always repeat the words “For you Armenia” in the kind of Armenia I dream about.” These were the words of Prime Minister Serge Sarsgyan, head of the RPA council, as he addressed the participants of the pre-election meeting held on the central square in Davitashen district, as an intermediate step of realizing the credo of the prosperous Armenia we all dream about. The Prime Minister appealed to the participants to vote for the Republican Party, a political power that had assumed the responsibility for the reforms implemented within the recent years. The square was crowded. Thousands of inhabitants of the Davitashen district had gathered under the slogan “For you Armenia” to listen to the head of the Government and the persons in charge of the local organizations of the Republican Party, as well as to familiarize themselves with the RPA pre-election platform which pursues only one goal, “A powerful state and army, a prosperous society, a respected citizen.” “It is obvious that both the Government and the principal political force, i.e. the Republican Party, have done a great deal,” the Prime Minister pointed out, also stating that the executive power has managed to increase salaries and pensions 3 times due to ensuring a two-digit economic growth for several years running. Thus, there are real prerequisites for implementing the second stage, that is, “the second generation reforms that will enable each layer of society, each individual, to perceive their life-giving spirit.” What to do to achieve that end? “This can only be done by forming a trustworthy government with your trust, your support and your participation. And the most common and simplest way of forming a trustworthy government is to hold free and fair elections, to enable the winning political power to confidently form a government and confidently exercise what it is competent to do. This is necessary for the Government for the implementation of transparent activity, and as a result of its work attains such results that will prevent people from feeling estranged after the elections,” Sargsyan announced. The head of the government believes that, “No fences, no barriers between the people and the Government must be allowed. And the best way of dismantling those fences and eliminating those barriers are the parliamentary elections and consistency towards the community’s problems, through the MP elected from the given constituency.” Therefore, “I call on all of you to vote for Levon Sargsyan, a candidate proposed by the RPA. If you wish your MP’s eloquent speech to be heard on the air, you may elect whomever you want. But the Republican party is a practical party, and Levon Sargsyan is a practical person, and if you wish a real job to be accomplished, if you want your streets to be renovated, and your social problems to be brought up in corresponding bodies and receive a solution, vote in favor of Levon Sargsyan,” the Prime Minister appealed to the participants. The Prime Minster revealed a small secret, saying, “Davitashen is a symbolic place for me, because this is where I spoke about one of my challenge dreams for the first time. During the inauguration of Tigran Petrosyan’s statue, I spoke about the kind of the Armenian chess team I wanted to see, and the tasks I set in relation to such a team. Thank God, we were able to dispose the guys to victory, to heroism, inspire confidence in their own potentials, and my challenge dream came true. One of my challenge dreams came true. Today, on this square, I want to inform you of my innermost dream. I want all of us to build a country any Armenian will desire to live in.” But, in order to achieve that end, it is necessary to become consolidated, the speaker believes. “We must join the best efforts of all Armenians, dispose ourselves to victory, inspire ourselves with belief in our potentials, and, I assure you, we together will achieve our goal by all means. I believe in providence. I believe, because all I said in front of Tigran Petrosyan’s statue came true,” the Chairmen of the RPA Council said, ending his speech on quite an optimistic note.
But yesterday Sargsyan didn’t say a word to his voters. In the end he took a few letters from the people and left. Maybe he took those to try and close the gap.
