Condemning

25/01/2007

The assassination of chief editor of the “Agos” weekly Hrant Dink has been condemned by the President of Armenia, the Armenian Foreign Minister, the President of Turkey, the Turkish Prime Minister, the U.S. State Secretariat, the Chancellor of Germany, the President of France, numerous mass media, many well-known international organizations, etc. The National Academy of Sciences, the “National Unity”, “Prosperous Armenia” and other parties have also condemned the assassination. In particular, “NU” has mentioned in its message that the countries that haven’t condemned the Armenian Genocide which took place in the Ottoman Empire must realize that the Turks and Azerbaijani are going to continue their anti-Armenian policy and murder of Armenians as long as it takes the international community to treat them the way they would like to be treated. Condemning that barbaric act, the “Prosperous Armenia” party expects the Turkish government to penalize the assassin and the possible organizers to the full extent of the law. In the condemning message of the National Academy of Sciences, it is mentioned that the “horrible crime became the logical continuity of Turkey’s traditional policy of denying the Armenian Genocide and proved once again that Republican Turkey is nowhere near being a country that respects freedom of speech, human and people’s rights and other democratic values.” Ethnic minorities living in the Republic of Armenia have also condemned the assassination of Hrant Dink.
