Not alliance but unionization

23/01/2007

Recently the official newspaper of the Constitutional Right Union, which closely cooperates with the Alliance party published a very interesting information.

According to the information of the newspaper “a number of parties are planning to make announcements, according to which they are not going to participate in elections and are petitioning other parties to give their votes to Samvel Babayan’s Alliance party.” The interesting thing is that the Alliance party in the person of its political board member, Gnel Dlechyan, also confirmed this information. He thinks that there is possibility that the “parties, which agree with the approaches adopted by the Alliance party may join them.” Moreover, one more time it’s mentioned that they don’t mean coalitions but factual union. By considering the rumors as well as the confirmation by the party, it’s not hard to assume that this was a deliberate information outflow. It’s not a secret that the Alliance, which has mainly adopted a not very public activity and by functioning in the “shade”, wants to control various formats being formed around the party. It’s hard to say how successful this tactics is going to be but one thing is clear there are numerous “minor” parties, who are looking forward to cooperating with a “greater” party like Babayan’s and are still hesitant about finalizing their party proportional lists. For example, for a long time rumors were going around about the possibility of coalition between the Legal State and the Constitutional Right Union. However, staring from last fall information came out that the Legal State so-called “old elite” doesn’t want to agree with forming a coalition. Under these conditions perhaps unexpected but interesting is the solution for NDU chairman Vazgen Manukyan. According to rumors he is going to “freeze” his party membership and “fit” in the second place of the proportional list of the Alliance party. But as mentioned after those rumors a few days ago the Alliance party undertook the outflow of the mentioned information and the confirmation on the part of Dlechyan. By doing this Alliance wants to prove that NDU is not going to e the only “frozen” party, which will be controlled by Babayan. Thus, all those people, who join the Alliance, are going to “relax’ by saying the public that their party is not going to participate in the elections and meanwhile petition the public to vote for the Alliance. By judging from information published in the recent editions of newspapers the process has already started. And it’s not excluded that Vazgen Manukyan’s “pragmatic” step may be repeated by Aram G. Sargsyan and DPA, Haik Babukhanyan and his party as well as Raffi Hovhannisyan with his Heritage party. Although it’s not excepted that Raffi Hovhannisyan as an independent political actor will be included in the proportional list of the Legal State.
