The web page of “ArmRusGazard” company (ARG) writes that there was an accident in the Georgian part of the gas pipeline on December 17, which stopped gas supply to Armenia. Yesterday they re-started supplying gas from their gas depots (with 50 cm capacity). The ARG officially informs that the accident will not have any negative results on gas supply and they will use the gas stored in the gas depots of Abovyan. The ARG was going to recover the whole supply capacity within the same day. The mentioned accident happened in the Georgian territory; nevertheless, there are some questions. According to the government, Iran-Armenia pipeline will be operated by the end of this year. We don’t want to predict anything, but it is not excluded that there may be some more explosions in the nearest future, but not in the territory of Georgia. If something happens with gas supply and Georgia does not receive gas, it will appear in a very poor situation since it is too cold and it has lack of energetic resources. As for Armenia, it may overcome the crisis by using its depots and gas supplied through Iran-Armenia pipeline. In a word, Russia may punish our neighbors that way. However, this “punishment” may be delayed for some time until Armenia gets prepared for it.
