Reaching the final phase

Following the meeting of Minsk the president of Azerbaijan gave an interview, where he said that the process of negotiations had reached the final phase. “There have been many phases in the process of negotiations, and I can say that we have reached the final phase already” said Aliev. According to the Azeri president, the presidents and foreign affairs ministers of the two countries have negotiated on the conflict in the framework of the Prague process over three years. “Recently we agreed some issues; however there were issues that were pending. Now we have agreed those issues as well” said Aliev and added, “However, there are issues that are still pending and the presidents discussed them”. The Azeri president said that the negotiations were “constructive” and noted that the policy of Azerbaijan connected with the conflict had not changed. Azerbaijan insists on settling the conflict basing on the principle of territorial integrity, the Armenian army should leave the occupied territories and over one million Azeri refugees should return to their places of living.
